As mentioned last week, I spent ten days in beautiful Winthrop, WA dogsitting for my in-laws. I decided to treat all three dogs to a stroll at Pearrygin Lake State Park. If you think a novice should be walking three dogs at once, don’t.
As I’ve mentioned, Orcas Island is the most rugged of the San Juan Islands, at least for those wanting to hike. The peak of the island, Mount Constitution, is inside Moran State Park–but there’s easier hikes too!
The drive from Crater Lake home to Seattle would have been a long one. Too long. So I elected we make a short but sweet stop at Silver Falls State Park near Salem to break up the drive home. It’s considered the crown jewel of Oregon State Parks–and I’d soon learn why.
Ahh, waking up the morning that Daylight Savings kicks in. The panic when you look at the time and realize you have one hour till checkout and need to shower and pack before departing for the trailhead. Maybe we didn’t pick the best weekend for hiking after all?
